A Brief History
Our school was organized in 1957 as a cooperative school by a group of mothers wanting a formal socialization experience for their children. They also wanted to be involved in that experience. Classes were held in the Bain Park Cabin.
The name of the school was officially changed to Fairview Park Nursery School in 1967. At that time, the school moved to Fairview Grace United Methodist Church. The school changed its name again in 2005 to Fairview Park Preschool.
The school is administered by interested parents and supported by parent participation. The school does not discriminate against race, creed, color or origin. The school carries liability and medical insurance.
Purpose
Our goal is to provide activities and opportunities which aid the preschool child in personality formation, physical development and social adjustment. Our aim is to act as a supplement to, not as a substitute for, the home.
Cooperative
You Make the Difference! We feel that parental involvement is important because it keeps you in touch with your child's first formal educational experience. It provides an opportunity to know the teachers, experience the classroom, observe how your child interacts with other children and how they respond to the pre-school experience. Participation in a co-operative provides the parent involvement in policy making and the development of a school philosophy.
Parents Responsibilities
- Each parent member is required to attend all General Membership Meetings, which are held in August, October and February of each school year.
- As a cooperative preschool, each parent member participates in the classroom an average of one day per month.
- Parents are required to participate in our fundraisers.
- Parents are required to serve on a school committee during the year.
Although not required, we also encourage parents to participate through a position on our Board of Trustees.
